About Spring Hill Christian Academy

Spring Hill Christian Academy (SHC) serves the K-8 children and families of Spring Hill, Columbia, Thompson Station and surrounding areas in Middle Tennessee. SHC is a private Classical Christian school dedicated to academic excellence from a Biblical worldview. Class sizes are small with an overall focus on cultivating a family-like learning environment.

 

The mission of SHC is to support parents in raising young men and women that are able to reason, discern, and apply Truth as the Lord leads them to achieve their fullest potential. This is accomplished by way of Scripture, the time-proven tools of classical education, small class sizes, and cultivating a family-like community.

The After Care Teacher is responsible for attending to K-8 students in the After School Program. This involves coordinating activities, supplemental academic lessons, games, crafts, outdoor play, and homework until students are picked up by their parents. There are also light administrative duties to ensure the After Care Program remains organized.

 

This is a part-time role that starts at 3pm and runs until until 5:30pm when aftercare ends on school days. The After Care Teacher reports to the Principal. Job and safety training are provided on site.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide responsible & attentive care for children.
  • Treat all children with care and compassion.
  • Uphold all safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly space.
  • Maintain a professional attitude, respecting family privacy at all times.
  • Provide enriching educational activities like facilitating study hall and help kids with homework.
  • Implementing and encouraging age-appropriate activities, learning and socialization.
  • Provide structure and accountability in a compassionate fashion.
  • Supervise toileting as needed and in appropriate manner.
  • Encourage children to participate in all activities.
  • Must supervise children at all times and have direct line of sight. No student is allowed to be on their own.
  • Contact the staff as needed to address challenges.
  • Monitor children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues and reporting concerns to the staff.
  • Ensuring children are learning positive behaviors and providing guidance or approved discipline, as needed.
  • Keeping records relating to child care and check in/out times.
  • Attend to the front desk as needed.
  • Turning off all lights and ensuring all entries/exits are locked before leaving.
  • Immediately notifying the Board of any emergencies and dialing 911 if applicable.

 

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in childcare or education.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of school aged children.
  • Be a self‐starter and perform the job with little supervision.
  • Possess the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Possess the ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Must be able to handle any questions that arise with the parents by answering them or by directing them to the right person for the answer.
  • Must be trustworthy, in good health, accurate, have a neat appearance, and a courteous manner.
  • Alignment with SHC mission, vision, and values.
