Title: Data Center Technician
Location: Piscataway, NJ
Duration: 1 Year
We are seeking an experienced Data Center Technician to support a high-availability data center environment in Piscataway, NJ. The technician will work on-site at a secondary data center location ("Site B") and play a critical role in system maintenance, equipment installation, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery support. Occasional overtime may be required , subject to prior approval through the agency s official timekeeping system.
Overtime Policy:Overtime requests must be submitted at least 24-48 hours in advance.
Supervisors will review requests and approve based on project needs and budget.
Technicians will receive confirmation of approval via the Citytime Application.
Add and configure equipment in the Site B environment.
Coordinate system testing with primary data center (Site A).
Monitor system health and respond to alerts in Site B.
Rack and stack new or replacement hardware.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical incidents on-site.
Travel to and be physically present at Site B as required.
Perform hardware and software upgrades.
Execute backup and restore procedures.
Maintain accurate documentation and manage physical assets.
Patch cables and ensure structured cabling is up to standards.
Support and participate in disaster recovery testing and fall-over simulations.
Collaborate with vendors to resolve WAN/internet circuit issues.
(Candidates must meet all the following to be considered.)
Minimum of 8 years experience in large-scale data center environments.
Networking knowledge, especially in N-Tier environments.
Ability to lift and install hardware (minimum 50 lbs).
Proficiency with structured cabling practices.
General knowledge of Windows and Unix operating systems.
Familiarity with network security zones (App, Web, DMZ).
Hands-on experience with Level 1 and Level 2 troubleshooting.
Ability to execute start-up and shutdown procedures.
Asset management and documentation skills.
Experience with backup and restore operations.
Experience patching cables and troubleshooting circuits with vendors.
Knowledge of N-Tier networking architecture.
CISCO networking certification.
OS certifications (Linux, Windows), and knowledge of storage and messaging platforms.
IT Security certifications.
Familiarity with databases.
Experience with hardware and software from vendors such as Cisco, EMC, Symantec, Oracle, Bluecoat, and McAfee.
